Members of the Multifaith Faith Advisory Group came together on the 21st September 2018, which is also the United Nations Day,  at the Zinc Room Federation Square to offer prayers for drought  affected farmers in Australia and peace in the world.

Meditation Sesshins are run each month to provide an opportunity to connect more deeply with ourselves and our meditation practice. A six hour practice day of alternate walking and sitting meditation is conducted in silence to build momentum and depth.

The conference committee is now inviting submissions of proposals for papers in all areas of Buddhist studies, including the following themes:

  • Buddhist texts and contexts 
  • Historical studies of Buddhism

Panel proposals on these or additional themes with three abstracts are also welcome. Postgraduate students are especially encouraged to present their research, for which bursaries may be available. Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund

Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund
Applications now open

The Victorian Government is inviting applications for its new $9.5 million Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund.
Culturally diverse community groups, organisations and regionally based associations are encouraged to apply for projects that build new facilities, improve or restore existing infrastructure, or increase security and improve accessibility for communities.
The new funding stream will offer large and small grants to support projects commencing in the 2018-19 financial year.
This includes an opportunity for community groups to apply for up to $10,000 towards the purchase or upgrade of depreciating assets such as fridges and microwaves. 
How much?
There are two streams of funding available:
  • Small - Requests between $500 - $100,000 will be considered for minor fitouts or upgrades to existing community facilities.
  • Large - Requests between $100,001 - $750,000 will be considered for major upgrades of existing facilities or towards the construction of new facilities.
Who?
To be eligible for funding, an organisation must:
  • Be a not-for-profit entity registered under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) or the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 (Vic)
  • Have a current Australian Business Number (ABN)
When?

Applications close 11.59pm, Friday 22 February 2019.
Applications and expressions of interest can be submitted at any time allowing organisations to undertake sufficient planning of their projects.

Message from Forest Fire Management Victoria

This summer Forest Fire Management Victoria is running a community awareness campaign about campfire safety. 

Our main message is "Don't let your campfire become a bushfire this summer." The aim is to educate people about what they can and can't do with the hope of reducing the number of bushfires that start from campfires. 

Campfire negligence is a huge issue for us - causing over 10% of bushfires every year. This places the community and our firefighters at risk, along with damaging the environment, and impacting industry and recreational users.
